Case Study

BANGOR ROCK REMOVAL WORKS

CLIENT

Halfords

PROJECT

Bangor Rock Face Remediation

LOCATION

Bangor, North Wales

OVERVIEW

Removal of failed rock netting and install new netting system to updated standards.

COMMENDATION

It has been a pleasure to be involved in this project due to the professionalism of all involved.—David Woolridge, Auditor on Behalf of Halfords.

THE CHALLENGE

The slope was identified as for reactive maintenance due to neglect which had resulted in dense vegetation overgrowth, spalling within the existing mesh and rockfalls causing the bottom of the mesh to bulge. TRAC were appointed to remove existing netting system and install a  passive system that met todays standards. All works had to take place with minimal operational impact to the adjacent commercial building.

THE APPROACH

The rear of the building was fenced off and fire exits diverted. TRAC worked with the Halfords team to coordinate an evacuation plan which satisfied the needs of the operatives, the store employees and the public at all times. TRAC Rope Access Technicians cleared vegetation which had grown through the netting and severed the netting from its anchors to remove it from the face in a controlled manner. With the building and ground suitably protected, all loose rock and material was removed from the face before installing the new anchors and netting system.

THE RESULTS

The project ran for a 5 week duration, as programmed. TRAC’s compact compound setup and robust logistical plan ensured minimal interference with the daily operation of the Halfords Store and Autocentre in close proximity. All timber removed from site was offered to those working at Halfords for fire wood and all trees surrounding the building were coppiced, to reduce overhang into the carpark spaces.
